Okay, so I'm super behind on blogging—this session was back in August and I'm just now getting to it. But honestly? Sometimes sitting with a session for a while helps you figure out what actually made it special.

This was one of those sessions that just worked. Not because of elaborate planning or perfect styling, but because it was rooted in what actually mattered—a meaningful location and personal touches that told a real story. Oh, and we got ridiculously lucky with the weather. There was a storm that day that literally blew right around us—you can see those dramatic clouds in the background. We just kept shooting and it missed us completely.

The Location: His Grandparents' Farm

He could've chosen anywhere, but picked his grandparents' property. Tobacco fields, a pond, clean white barns, and that brick house with the classic white columns. The thing is, it wasn't just about aesthetics. This was land he knew, where he'd spent time. So when we're walking around shooting, he's comfortable. Relaxed. Not performing.  That's the difference between a random pretty location and somewhere that's actually part of your story.

If you're planning your session: Think about places that mean something to you—your family's land, the field where you play ball, your driveway where you work on cars. If you feel comfortable there, it shows.

What Made It Personal: His Pup and His Truck

Some of my favorite shots? The ones with his dog. That moment on the lawn with trees in the background, the one on the brick porch—pure gold. The pup was just happy to be outside, and that genuine connection comes through. You can't fake that. We also brought in his truck. Those storm clouds rolling in made for some incredible backgrounds. It added variety and told more of his story.

Real talk: Bring what matters to you. Your car, your horse, your guitar, your jersey—whatever. Authenticity beats trendy every single time.

I love a styled senior session, don't get me wrong. But this one was personal and special in a different way.
